Calumex® Quick is a cement accelerator used as an additive to Portland cement-based systems. It is normally applied at a 25% replacement of the cement content to obtain a cement binder that has fast setting times, accelerated drying, and high early strength development. Furthermore, Calumex® Quick provides shrinkage compensation through positive expansion.
Systems based on Calumex® Quick are stable over time, with late strength development also being improved. The application of Calumex® Quick also provides improved resistance to sulfate attack or other aggressive substances. Applying Calumex® Quick will lower the alkalinity of the cement matrix, making it more suited for glass fiber reinforced cement applications. The pH will remain sufficiently high to protect steel rebar or fibers.
Calumex® Quick has a wide variety of possible applications where a rapid set and high early strengths are required. Possible applications include:
When mixed with Portland cement 52,5R at a 1:2 ratio (wcf 0.4), the following early strengths can be achieved:
Time | Compressive Strength | Flexural Strength |
---|---|---|
6 hours | ≥ 20,00 MPa | ≥ 3,00 MPa |
24 hours | ≥ 30,00 MPa | ≥ 3,50 MPa |
72 hours | ≥ 35,00 MPa | ≥ 4,00 MPa |
Applying the above indicative mixing ratio, setting times will be reduced from 3-4 hours to several minutes. If needed, the setting times can be easily adjusted by applying commonly used cement retarding agents such as citric or tartaric acid.
The values given above are indications and will depend on the type and source of sulfate and Portland cement used. Always carefully test your mixes before applying them in practice.
