ORGAL® HT 465 is a hydrophobically modified alkali swellable (HASE) type anionic thickener. It is designed to provide a cost-effective alternative to cellulosic thickeners. The primary application is for indoor and outdoor matt emulsion paints, but it is also suitable for thickening latex compounds used in textiles, carpets, paper, and more.

Viscosity is developed by neutralization to a pH of 7.0 to 10.0. ORGAL® HT 465 can be added to the mill-base, to the letdown, or as a post-addition if the medium is sufficiently alkaline and sufficient mixing is available. Additional base is used to adjust the pH. The prediluted and neutralized form can also be added. The amount needed in paint formulations should be determined by lab trials, but typically, 0.4 – 1.0% is used, either alone or in combination with cellulosics. It is recommended to add ORGAL® HT 465 diluted 1:1 with water.
To ensure safe storage of this emulsion, containers should be well sealed to prevent water evaporation and skin formation. The emulsion must be stored between 5-25°C for a maximum of 12 months. Freezing must be avoided.
