Primer Solution
BRB Silanil® 919 can be dissolved in isopropanol or other solvents and used as a primer to improve adhesion. Two methods are commonly suggested:
-
Dissolve 5% BRB Silanil® 919 in isopropanol, wipe onto the substrate, and dry at 75°C for 15 minutes or at room temperature for 30 minutes before applying a coating.
-
Dissolve 40% BRB Silanil® 919 in isopropanol, add 5% water, allow to stand for 6 hours, dilute to 5% active with isopropanol, and apply as in Method 1.
For adhesion improvement, the best performance is realized when BRB Silanil® 919 is used as a primer.
Adhesion Promoter in Coatings and Adhesives
BRB Silanil® 919 improves adhesion in coatings and adhesives, particularly in polyurethanes, epoxies, phenolics, and others, to glass and metal surfaces. Recommended dosage is 0.2–2.0 wt%. Proper pH adjustment and induction times are necessary for optimal performance.
Glass Fiber Size Process
BRB Silanil® 919 can be applied to inorganic surfaces such as glass fibers using dilute aqueous solutions (0.1–0.5%). Proper agitation is required to avoid gel formation.
Mineral Filler Treatment
Minerals can be treated by slurrying in aqueous solutions or blending with the silane using isopropanol or etherglycol. Treated surfaces can be air-dried or dried at 104–121°C.
