Fiber Size: BRB Silanil® 258 can be applied on inorganic surfaces, e.g., glass fibers and fabrics, as a dilute aqueous solution (0.1 to 0.5% silane concentration). Aqueous solutions are prepared by adjusting the pH of the water from 3.5 to 4.5 with about 0.1% acetic acid, then adding the silane and stirring. The mixture is stirred for about 15 minutes to form a clear, homogeneous solution.
Mineral Filler Treatment: For mineral fillers, the mineral can be treated by mixing with the silane solution at very low shear for several minutes. The silane solution is prepared by mixing BRB Silanil® 258 with isopropanol, water, and acetic acid to accelerate hydrolysis.
Primer Solution: BRB Silanil® 258 can be used as a primer by preparing a solution with methanol, isopropanol, or ether glycol. Prehydrolyzed primers may include water addition for enhanced adhesion properties.
